The winter knockout final was contested last Sunday on a beautiful Spring Morning, Colin and James Larkin were against Mick Booth and Steven Hill.
We had nervy drives on the first by everybody except Mick who found the fairway who finished Hole 1 with a stress free 5 net 4 to go 1 up, nerves continued to play their part with no tee shots finding the 2nd green but a great up and down by Colin pulled the match back all square.
Mick and Steve won holes 3 and 4 to go 2 up, but a further 2 more fine up and downs on Hole 5 and 6 by The Larkins levelled the match going to hole 7.
James chipped in from just off the green on Hole 7 to put Colin and James in the lead for the first time. Hole 8 produced the first halved hole of the match, but an amazing 5 net 4 from Steve after a troublesome second shot meant the match was all square at halfway.
Hole 10 was won by Colin with a regulation 4 but a nett birdie by Steve brought it back to all square once more. Holes 12 and 13 were halved and the match really came to light when James managed a 4 after a majestic up and down on Hole 14 only to be beaten by Steve’s 4 nett 3 to go 1 up
Hole 15 was halved in regulation, Hole 16 was also halved with 5 nett 4.
The tension was building when the pairs arrived at the 17th Tee and a fantastic iron shot from Mick gave him the opportunity to win the match 2 and 1.
The match was played in great spirit with both pairs sharing drinks in the clubhouse afterwards.
