Senior Capt's Report on the inaugural match versus Toft
Toft Captain Duncan Cameron contacted myself after they had lost games against Boston West and another in Lincoln. We also lost matches against the Boston West Club.
Due to our full programme we agreed to play them in alternate years and so we visited Toft on 4th July.
Very few of us had played Toft before and the weather was glorious all day. Good start!
Eight pairs on each side and after the shock of the climb up the first two holes the views were spectacular. Never mind the golf.
Most of us found the greens hard to read but enjoyed the course immensely.
We were treated wonderfully by our hosts and the meal afterwards was Lincolnshire sausage and mash followed by a compote.
Although we lost the match 6 games to 1 we all had A GRAND DAY OUT.
We look forward to next year for revenge at home.
Seniors' Captain's Charity Day
More than 60 of Newark’s Seniors Section turned out to pay a fiver to play in Seniors’ Captain Len Astill’s Charity Day, in aid of Beaumond House Community Hospice
It was a tight finish on a windy but bright day, with Simon Channon (14 handicap) winning with 38 pts. Paul Speakman (6) was second with 37 and Howard Wibberley (16), with a back nine of 21, was best of a group on 36.
The Seniors Section raised funds for Beaumond House throughout the year. This event’s £300+ will be added to proceeds from raffles and fines, to be presented to Beaumond House after the Hole in One event in the autumn.
