Our scratch team played at Worksop two weeks ago in their second match of the season and unfortunately came off second best. The matches were close, but Worksop won 31/2 to 11/2. The next match is our first home match v Retford on Monday 2nd June. I would urge those of you who have not followed our team to come along and encourage the lads. You get to watch golf of the highest quality and it's easy to swap between matches. This is a big year for our team and they need all the support we can give them.
Last week saw our Mixed Inter Club Foursomes team start the defence of their title against Serlby Park at Hollinwell. Unfortunately they could not repeat last year's win against Serlby and both pairings saw their leads disappear over the last 3 holes. I know they'll be very disappointed going out in the early stages, but better luck next year. My thanks to Eva, Emma, Tom and Ryan for their efforts.
Unfortunately we have had to postpone the new member's competition on Saturday, we have rescheduled it to 16th August. Apologies for the late notification.
On the social side, I have organized a trip to Bateman's Brewery at Wainfleet on Friday 6th June. This is a bus trip from the club, a brewery tour, supper, beer and return trip. All are welcome, bring your friends along, it should be a good boozy night. The sheet is in the spike bar.
The Centenary trophy is on 15th June, which is also Father's day. You’ll not be surprised to learn that this trophy celebrates the club’s 100th anniversary in 2001. Previous winners include one C V Dixon !
On the 22nd of June, we compete for the Ted Hastell Memorial Trophy. The Trophy – was presented in memory of Ted Hastell by his family . Ted was Club Captain in 1978 and a Director for a number of years. The competition is an 18 hole mixed stapleford. Phil Maxwell was the first winner in 1990.
