Ladies' Captain's Charity Day 20th September 2016

A somewhat damp and overcast start to the ladies Charity Golf Day yesterday, but the ladies battled on regardless!  Due to holidays and pre-booked events, numbers were quite considerably down on recent years, but 34 ladies braved the elements.

Jo and Josie booked the ladies in for the competition in the club foyer.  Tee times commenced at 9.00 am in the drizzle, with the day eventually drying up slightly.  We have been quite fortunate this year with not too many wet days, so I guess a little rain will do the course good!  Congratulations to Graeme and the team for producing the course to an excellent standard for the day.

On completion of the competition, the ladies enjoyed a welcome cup of tea/coffee and had the choice from a huge variety of cakes including Chocolate fudge, Red velvet, cinnamon whirls, carrot cake, tiramisu, and Victoria sponge all included in this years entry fee of £5.  This year all of the stalls were not "open for business" until everyone was back in the clubhouse, giving everyone a chance to find something to purchase.

A lovely variety of goods were on offer including some of our own ladies produce including home made jams and chutneys.  Not to mention expertly made cakes, home grown fruit and some very interesting "plants" that I personally had been looking after for a few days, watering and making sure they were still alive for the charity day which actually turned out to be WEEDS!!!! this could only happen to me!  New items that had been donated were also on sale, and the main non golfing event of the day was the traditional locally donated huge raffle.  I would like to thank all of the local shops that gave so generously, the table looked impressive.

As all of you will know these days do not organise themselves, and I could not have done it without the massive assistance of the whole of the ladies Committee.  The ladies were involved from start to finish, so I would like to say a massive thank you one and all for all of your hard work.

The result turned out to be exceedingly close with Tish Applewhite winning the Jubillee Cup, and the charity day prize.  Closely followed by Megan Allen and Margaret Ledwis on countback, then Sue Burns, Julia Hatcher on a count back and Miyako Willaims

A special thank you to Nan for once again putting together a challenging quiz, and guess the buttons and tees jars.  All of which were won by Julia Hatcher.  Well done.

A busy day with lots happening, so I hope you all enjoyed it.  I would like to thank everyone for their generosity and donations.

All in all with the raffle, quiz, entry fees, games, stalls and donations the total on the day raised amounted to £765.60.  An outstanding amount from the numbers attending.  This will of course be boosted by all of the "magic square" sales which to date total £600.

Enough from me, so once again a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to help make this day the success that it turned out to be. it would not be possible without your support.

Kind regards,

Nine & Dine

A new addition to this years' ladies calendar is the August course maintenance week nine and dine competition.  Thank you to Simon and Graeme for allowing the ladies to put this competition in the diary.

Ladies have historically gone away to play other courses this week, so it was lovely to see 22  ladies turning up to play the front nine.  For those that "stayed at home" it is good to give the ladies an option of playing golf with the chance of a prize or too as a bonus!

The greens looked like corduroy, but none the less played exceedingly well.  Josie Wake managed to win on the day with a very creditable 19 points, closely followed by Bobby Bush scoring 18 points, in third place came Nina Brittain and in fourth place was Ann White.  Well done ladies, very good scoring out there today.

We were joined by seven of our non-playing ladies including Edith, Jean, Shirley and friends.  It is always lovely to see these ladies getting involved in the ladies section, as they do still come and help on the bigger days in the half way house and support social and charity events.

The meal of Quiche, new potatoes and salad was excellent once again and an absolute bargain at the price paid.  To round the day off we had some tea/coffee and biscuits followed by the small prize presentation.  All in all a superb way to spend an afternoon at our Golf Club.  I am sure Carole intends to put the nine and dine competitions in the diary for next year as they prove to be a nice social gathering.

Ladies Invitation Day 2016

Well summer finally arrived for Ladies Invitation Day this year.  It was wall to wall sunshine with temperatures reaching the mid 30's!  Ladies representing approximately 12 different clubs joined our lady members for this chance for us to show off our golf course at its best.  A warm welcome on the registration desk from Jo Jalland and Sue Burns  followed up by our very own star starter Mr. Lewis set everyone off perfectly.  Tee times from 12 through until 2 in the heat of the day proved challenging  although you would not know that from some of the scores that were posted.  Needless to say it was a welcome stop at the Halfway house again manned by Jo & Sue, with some tea, cold drinks, cakes and snacks served up under the trees in the shade gave us all a welcome respite from the sun. Thank you to all of the ladies for their donations for this, it does make such a difference to the day.

This year all of the ladies sat down to eat together.  Although this proved a bit of a wait for the early players, I think the difference this made to the overall meal and presentation was more than beneficial.  Karen, Rob, Matt and the team did a superb job for us again, with some very good comments on the actual meal of carvery served Gammon, new potatoes and salad. plenty of empty plates did a lot of the talking too!

The theme for this years' prize table was Pearls.  Some lovely comments from the ladies saying how stunning the prize table looked, so come on all you ladies that did not get involved this year, it is a fantastic way of getting other ladies to see our golf course!

Some top scores despite the weather - here are some of the winners : -

Shelley Pritchard / Carol Stothard (Belton Woods)   44 Points

Di Jackson  /  Chris Glasby (Millfield)  43 Points

Megan Allen  /  Charlie Hall  (Southwell)  42 Points

Prizes were awarded up to 6th place,  with best nine in and best nine out, and nearest the pins on all of the par 3's,  Congratulations to the winners, and everyone who took part in this event, it is one not to be missed.

The raffle on the day was in aid of the ladies section, and thanks to the generosity of the ladies made approximately £100.

These days do not run themselves, so here are some thank you's to the people who gave so generously of their time.

Susan Harding, Caroll Maclachlan, Sandra Goodwin, Linda Fearn, Carole Wass, Shelley Pritchard, Josie Pepper, Derek Lewis, Jo Jalland and Sue Burns.  This event would not have proved to be so successful without all of your input, so many thanks.

Lots of events to come with some Mixed friendly matches at home and away, Mixed exchange Day, Ladies charity day to name but a few, so keep your eye on the noticeboards.

Exchange Day Burghley Park Golf Club

35 Ladies drove down to Burghley Golf Club to play in this years' Ladies Exchange Day.  A great turn  out considering how busy the golf calendar is this year, with league matches and club competitions at least once if not twice a week, it is proving quite difficult to fit all this golf in!  This year 44 ladies travelled from Burghley to play our home club.  Some fantastic comments from the visiting ladies - here is one of the emails received praising the day : -

"Just got home, and wanted to send this message to show our appreciation.  We all had a fantastic day - our ladies loved it!  The course and catering were great.  Nick, Karen and the teams looked after us really well.  The ladies all enjoyed the food judging by the 100% clean plates!.  The ladies in the halfway house did a great job too.  Thank you so much for helping to make this day a great success."

From the minute we arrived at Burghley the welcome could not have been better.  We were met by Di, David and Donald who presented the ladies with a welcome gift from the Pro, which was a lovely gesture.  Tony and the catering staff were outstanding, even moving all the tables in the restaurant so that we had 3 tables of 12, and he set up the prize table for us too.  The course was in great condition, but judging by the winning scores on the day it did play long!

Congratulations to Linda Dunwoodie a worthy winner.  In fact congratulations to all the winners.  We had two "surprise team" prizes on the day - giving everyone a chance to win a prize with teams of three being picked totally at random, and this proved a welcome surprise for a few of the ladies.

Thank you to Jo for sorting out all the scorecards, and taking the photographs too.

The food was excellent as was the service.  All in all a lovely day definitely helped by the fact that we pretty much got round in the dry despite quite a bad weather forecast.  Get your diaries ready for next year as Carole has booked Toft Golf Club at Bourne for this event next year.  A fantastic way to play at another golf course for the cost of your meals, and a little towards the prize table.  Don't forget to look at our diary for the mixed exchange day - this year we are visiting Gainsborough Golf Club.

I hope all the ladies "on tour" enjoyed the day as much as I did.  Your continued support for events throughout 2016 is very much appreciated.
