Ladies' Autumn Meeting

The Autumn Meeting proved to be a full day of golf for the ladies of Newark Golf Club.  44 ladies were down to play in the 18 hole medal in the morning.  I think it will be a record 9 teams of three played in the 3-3-3 competition in the afternoon, with ladies teeing off until 4.00 p.m.   The weather was quite kind, with a rather dull and overcast start with some quite windy conditions throughout the day, but at least the day remained dry!  The course played quite tough, but some of the scores on the day said otherwise!!

A fantastic overall winning score of nett 68 by Tish Applewhite proved too good to beat on the day.  Tish was however closely followed by Julia Hatcher with a superb nett 69, which off her handicap is absolutely stunning, so congratulations ladies.  Jo had her work cut out on the day feeding in the scores and checking them all as there were several other nett 69 scores too including Jane Tucker, and myself.  The bronze winner was Erica Sanson who too posted a fantastic nett 69 to win the bronze division.  Other creditable scores were posted by Maureen Paulson, Megan Allen, Barbara Channon, Carole Wass, Rita Stevenson,  Jo Jalland, Susan Harding, Aimee Ferguson, Susan Birkett to name but a few.  A hearty congratulations ladies some superb scores on the day.

The 3-3-3 competition in the afternoon was won by Maureen Paulson, Erica Sansom and Mia Williams with 35 points on countback from Rina Ozolins, Margaret Lewis and Di Allen.  Congratulations ladies.  The putting competition was won by Brenda Wood with 33 putts and second place was Margaret Lewis.

The prize table looked stunning thanks to Eva who did a wonderful job of going out and sourcing the varied selection of prizes.  Thank you Eva for your attention to detail, the table was lovely, and much appreciated by the winners.

Dinner was expertly served by Karen Nick and the team, and by the look of the clean plates certainly on our table, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the carvery served Gammon joint with potatoes and salad.  It would be remiss of me if I failed to mention Susan Harding who yet again provided some beatiful flowers on every table - thank you Susan.

Sandra came back from holiday and got immediately stuck into selling raffle tickets for the ladies section - there are some prizes left so ladies check your tickets and see any of the committee if you were unable to stay just in case you have won a prize.  I would also like to thank Sandra for sorting out the order, and the winners prizes.

I must also thank Caroll and the ladies in the halfway house who duly filled us with tea and cakes half way round in the morning, and I am sure this contributed to the excellent scores, so thank you ladies.

There was a lovely atmosphere in the club house, and great to see the ladies enjoy the evening.

Thank you all for continuing to particpate in all that we can throw at you!

The next main event is the mixed exchange day on Friday of this week at Gainsborough golf club - 48 members on tour - look out Gainsborough!

Lots of golf still to be played this season, so keep your eye on howdidido and of course the noticeboards. Seniors and Ladies Am-Am is on the noticeboard now.  Captain vs Vice Captain Match and Supper is also looming so please add your names to the list.

SPACES STILL AVAILABLE IN THE CHARITY OPEN ON MONDAY - PHONE THE GOLF SHOP IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ENTER A TEAM OF FOUR!

Thank you all for taking the time to read the notices, and catch up again soon,

Regards,

Rina

Ladies' Past Captains Competition

LADIES PAST CAPTAINS

On the 23rd of September, 20 Past Ladies Captains meet together.  On a lovely sunny day 16 ladies Past Captains played  a stableford non qualifying competition for the Trophy. Mrs Jane Tucker won this with a score of 33 points. Everyone brings and takes home a prize on this day, so there are no losers.

We were all pleased to have this year's Ladies Captain as our honoured guest. In theory a day off during a very busy year.

After the game some non playing Past Captains joined the group and an excellent meal was enjoyed by all.  We all look forward to this annual event which will take place on 22nd September next year.

Ladies' Captain's Charity Day 20th September 2016

A somewhat damp and overcast start to the ladies Charity Golf Day yesterday, but the ladies battled on regardless!  Due to holidays and pre-booked events, numbers were quite considerably down on recent years, but 34 ladies braved the elements.

Jo and Josie booked the ladies in for the competition in the club foyer.  Tee times commenced at 9.00 am in the drizzle, with the day eventually drying up slightly.  We have been quite fortunate this year with not too many wet days, so I guess a little rain will do the course good!  Congratulations to Graeme and the team for producing the course to an excellent standard for the day.

On completion of the competition, the ladies enjoyed a welcome cup of tea/coffee and had the choice from a huge variety of cakes including Chocolate fudge, Red velvet, cinnamon whirls, carrot cake, tiramisu, and Victoria sponge all included in this years entry fee of £5.  This year all of the stalls were not "open for business" until everyone was back in the clubhouse, giving everyone a chance to find something to purchase.

A lovely variety of goods were on offer including some of our own ladies produce including home made jams and chutneys.  Not to mention expertly made cakes, home grown fruit and some very interesting "plants" that I personally had been looking after for a few days, watering and making sure they were still alive for the charity day which actually turned out to be WEEDS!!!! this could only happen to me!  New items that had been donated were also on sale, and the main non golfing event of the day was the traditional locally donated huge raffle.  I would like to thank all of the local shops that gave so generously, the table looked impressive.

As all of you will know these days do not organise themselves, and I could not have done it without the massive assistance of the whole of the ladies Committee.  The ladies were involved from start to finish, so I would like to say a massive thank you one and all for all of your hard work.

The result turned out to be exceedingly close with Tish Applewhite winning the Jubillee Cup, and the charity day prize.  Closely followed by Megan Allen and Margaret Ledwis on countback, then Sue Burns, Julia Hatcher on a count back and Miyako Willaims

A special thank you to Nan for once again putting together a challenging quiz, and guess the buttons and tees jars.  All of which were won by Julia Hatcher.  Well done.

A busy day with lots happening, so I hope you all enjoyed it.  I would like to thank everyone for their generosity and donations.

All in all with the raffle, quiz, entry fees, games, stalls and donations the total on the day raised amounted to £765.60.  An outstanding amount from the numbers attending.  This will of course be boosted by all of the "magic square" sales which to date total £600.

Enough from me, so once again a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to help make this day the success that it turned out to be. it would not be possible without your support.

Kind regards,

Rina
