This was played in the afternoon of the 29th of July in excellent conditions, the Fergusons went ahead on the first with a net four, the Woods won the next two but then malcolm’s putter went cold on him, allowing the fergusons to win 4,6,7, with bogies, the excitement came on the 10th when Malcom drove into the pond and the fergusons won the hole with the first par of the round between the pairs, TeamFergusons won 2&1 excellent match Congratulations team Ferguson.
The Barnby Plate Was between Mr Andrew Chamberlain the winner of the Averham trophy and Mr Phil Warriner.
It all started with both players driving into the woods and Phil conceding the first to Andrew, the next two where halved, Andrew won the fourth with a par, 3 more half’s followed, Phil having 3 puts from 15 feet on the 7th inspired Andrew to birdie the 8th although Phil put up a great fight Andrew on form was always comfortable and went on to win 3&2. Congratulations to the champion Andrew Chamberlain well played.
was well supported and we received excellent comments from our visitors for the super quality of the course and the hospitality of a Newark Golf Club, the champions of the open and the Kelwick Bowl Were:
Glyn Martin and Lee Denman from Yorkshire.
Nott’s Boys Match play Knockout championship.
Was played on the 15th and 17th of Aug. at Newark Golf Club with the best of Nottinghamshire young golfing talent on show. Although it had to be played after the greens maintenance there was still good comments about the condition of the course and thanks for the hospitality of Newark Golf Club from the players but also from the President Mr Roger Poole,
I presented the trophy to the Champion Mr Charlie Dryden from Ruddington Grange Golf Club after initially being a reserve.
Second was Oliver Handley from Notts Golf Club.
The final was between Mr Shaun Sutton and the Captain. J. Andrade.
After having to abandon the match with Shaun one up after 7 holes due to heavy rain and waterlogged greens we decided to start afresh a few days later, Shaun continue to dominate and was still one up after 7 and going two up after 9 we continue the back with the captain always trailing behind until Shaun`s lost ball on the sixteen allowed the captain to draw level with the captain a few feet from the hole on the 17th an excellent chip over the left bunker Shaun holed in for a half ,3 more half’s followed, the Captain holing the last put on the 3rd extra hole for victory, thanks Shaun for a great match and the £100 donation after the match for the captains charity in aid of Beaumond House.
KELWICK CUPS final was played on the 1st of October. Between Andrew Sedgewick and Steve Brotherhood, James Todd and Steve Patterson.
with perfect conditions and a fresh sunny morning both teams were ready for battle at 09.00.
Patterson and Todd went one up with a net 3 on the first but Sedgwick with a plan to leave his driver in the bag to play down the middle was a good move to take his team ahead and by half way with the team Patterson and Todd not gelling too well victory looked beyond their reach then Brotherhood took over with a bunch of birdies and an eagle on the back 9 there was no answer from team Paterson and Todd.
A comfortable victory in the end for team Sedgwick. Congratulations to the champions Andrew Sedgwick and Steve Brotherhood.
The Captain`s Charity day on the 9th of October was well supported.
I decided that this Year`s Captain`s Charity day in aid of Beaumond house was to be an open day with a view to maximise revenue for the charity, that proved to be a good decision we had 128 players taking part 43 were visitors netting around an extra £1000 to the total raised many thanks to all the sponsors and players for their generosity and I will announce the total amount raised later.
The winners of the first prize £200 with 45 points were Mr Darren Kirton from College Pines Golf Club and Mr Lee Hessey from Retford Golf Club.
The Hallam Cup
The final match could not take place due to Simon Collingwood injury to his ankle so the match was conceded.

I am honoured and proud to be the captain of Newark Golf club for 2016. It was a pleasure to host this year’s Captain's Day competition with all male members of the club invited to take part. The weather was kind and helped to make it a great day for all, we had only a bit of light rain in the evening which did not affect the scoring.
With 151 players in the field, the first tee was at 07.00 and the last tee time at 16.40, they competed not only for this year`s valuable Captain`s prize, the Taylormade M1 Driver but other excellent prizes too.
I would like to thank the sponsors of the Captains Day prizes; Listers Mercedes and Secure Valeting and the sponsor of the Captains ale Everards Brewery. Also many thanks to all the players for their support of the Captain's charity Beaumond House local hospice, on the day their generosity in buying raffle tickets and donations in the halfway house and the help of the sponsors we managed to raise £1,199.22

The traditional Captain`s lunch was attended by 68 guests and I was honoured to be in the company of such wonderful friends, the food was first class, complements to our chefs and all the catering staff for the excellent service.

Captain’s away day was on the 27th of May, this year was an exchange between Newark golf club and Kings Lynn golf club in west Norfolk.
The coach departed at 8.30am from Newark golf club, arriving at Kings Lynn at about 10am bacon roll and coffee and a friendly welcome from the club catering manager Carl, was just what we needed after the coach journey.
The competition was a singles stableford.
The sun was shining and everyone was looking forward to discover what was hidden in the woodland beyond the clubhouse in this top 100 course in the country.
Well, this magnificent setting soon showed what it had to offer, a very challenging course with elevated undulating greens and narrow tree-lined fairways that only straight shots was the order of the day and no partner to rely on, it was just a personal battle.
But it was all smiles analysing the round afterwards with a pint on the patio overlooking the 18th green.
An excellent 3 course Dinner and coffee was enjoyed by everyone.
Followed by the captain’s speech and prize presentation.
Many thanks to everybody that took part on this special day, thank you to Mr Charlie Lager for his efforts in handing out the fines, all with laughs in aid of the captains charity, collected in fines was £185.51 with other donations of £65 making a total of £250.51 raised on the day.

Captains news update 1st quarter 2016
After a cold and wet start of the Year, resulting in our course having to close for our home match against Belton Woods for the Mail on Sunday Classic on the 6th of Feb. the match had to be played away on very wet soggy muddy and windy day at Belton, not only a golfing day to forget but also the result.
A new addition to our diary this winter was the winter opens; first one in November the second on the 21st of Feb 2016 both very successful, tee times filled mainly with visitors from all over and as far as Reading to play our course.
Congratulations to the champions of the two ball winter scramble: Tim Siddons and Vanessa Siddons.
Captains evening was held on Friday the 11th of March, Mexican food prepared by our chef Matt, captain`s sangria went down well, evening cocktail was tequila sunrise and tequila slammer.
The evening`s entertainment was live music with our local famous singer Matt Shepherdson great fun enjoyed by everyone many thanks to all 80 or so members and guests that supported the evening.
Captains drive in on Sunday 13th of March was treated with an early spring warm day ideal weather to show my driving skills on the first tee nothing unusual some to the right some to the left and one or two straight not to mention the exploding golf balls supplied by the Vice-Captain David Yarnell many thanks David.
The day marks the beginning of our golfing season, my thanks to everybody for their support and best wishes and for taking part in the traditional match that followed the Captain`s drive in,
(Captain V Vice-Captain.)
Last year`s Captain Sean and his Son Ryan and myself and my Son James had some excellent matches throughout the season with us finishing the Year ahead, and the family rivalry already started when the Captain and Son James and Vice Captain and Son Chris went head to head in the first match this year`s Sassenachs V Celts the Captain and Son winning both his match and victory for the Sassenachs the second match was Captain V vice-Captain on the Captains drive in day when the Vice-Captain and Son won their match against the Captain and Son and victory for the Vice captains team so one each congratulations to the team Vice.
Our First team match this year was at home to stoke Rotchford on Saturday 19th March it’s always a good match against the big guns of Stoke but after last year’s defeat at stoke Rochford this year our trees played with us and Newark had a rare win 5 and 2 so well done to team Newark.
Club stableford Competition on the 20th of match was won by Mr Graham Eason with an excellent score 40 points, Congratulations Graham.
This Year`s Winter league Knockout final was a family affair between the Hazzledine brothers Ben and James and Father and Son Steve Walsh and son Henry two very strong teams;
Steve and Henry were very quick off the mark by winning the first four holes the brothers halving the 5th and sixth and Ben winning the 7th with a birdie, 8th halved and another win for the brothers on the 9th brought the deficit to two, 10th was halved and Ben again showed his power on the 11th on the green in two got his birdie but Steve stood firm getting a net birdie for a half,
Two more halves followed then Steve and Henry went 3 up by winning the 14th the 15th was halved with the pressure on James sent his drive in to the 11th territory and Ben in the right bunker Steve and Henry capitalized by winning the 16th and the fight was over victory by 4 and two.The cup was presented to Steve and Henry by the Captain and it was all smiles with a well deserved drink after the Match.
Thanks to all that took part in the winter knockout and congratulations to the champions Steve Walsh and Son Henry.
The winter out of the way and spring now here and full diary I am looking forward to a very busy golfing year ahead.
I would like to thank G. Mac and his team for their hard work to keep the course in lovely playing condition throughout the winter it has been appreciated and attracted good comments from members and visitors alike so well done the green team.
Best wishes everyone.
Captain 2016 J. Andrade.
