It's Official ! The Scratch Team WIN the league !

Following defeats for Norwood, Coxmoor and Worksop on Monday evening, our scratch team cannot be caught, they have a 5 point lead with one match to play. So we can start celebrating now, or we can congratulate them all at Beeston Fields a week on Monday. Please come along and give them your support. I cannot remember Newark winning the scratch lead before, I'll do some digging and see if I can confirm it.
Thanks for all who took part in the New Members Competition, it was a great day with 39 players taking part and the Ladies carried the day.  Congratulations to Josie Wakes, Julia  Hatcher and Vanessa Siddons who won with 86 points.
The Black Monday Gents Medal is on Howdidido, there are several places remaining.
Also on 29th of August, there is a Par 3 away day at Nailcote Hall near Coventry. This is an inexpensive day out and all members are welcome. Entry sheet is in the spike bar.
The entry sheet for the Ryder Cup weekend will be coming down soon, if you haven't got a team, put your name down anyway, we will try to get you made up.
Look out also for the 3 club team competition ( this year you can add your putter), entry fee is £5.00, and it includes a burger or similar.
That's all fir now folks.

Captain's News 4.8.14

A big thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to make the Newark Open a successful day.

Thanks to the starters, reception and the halfway house, and of course to Keith Whitfield and Kevin Ferguson from the competitions committee.

Without volunteers we could not hope to put on such an event. We had 200 players, many visiting for the first time and the feedback was once again very positive.

Captain's News 29.07.14

The Scratch team had a great win against Notts on Monday and now need to beat Beeston away to ensure that we win the league.  What a terrific achievement that will be.  Other results could even mean that we win before that match.

There was an excellent performance from Adam Woolley, winner of the Club Championship last week. coming from 2 down to win the last 3 holes.  A well earned half for Jim Hallam and wins for Charlie Bentley and Alex Clarricoates saw the team home; thanks go to Chris Keightley who took one for the team on this occasion.

Thanks for your support and I am hoping for a good turnout at Beeston in September.

Captains News 21.07.14

Thank you to everyone who attended the July Ball, the hogroast went down well and the Fab 4 managed to get everyone up and dancing. I hope you all enjoyed the evening as much as Jane and myself.

On to golf, I have finally put a decent round together for the first time in 2 years. I picked up a new set of Apex irons, fitted by Rob, walked straight on to the tee and shot a net 68. I thought I'd kept the purchase a secret but when I got home my wife asked me how good the new clubs were. Oh well.

Next Saturday is the Club Championship which will be a tough one to call; we have so many in form players. The following day is the Averham and MacRae for the not so low handicappers. At the Competitions committee meetings, we have been discussing having a cut half way through the Club Championship and Averham Plate, but we will probably do this next year and revert back to Sat/Sun rounds.

On Monday 28th July, our Scratch team play Notts at home. As you will all know by now, we are currently sitting top of the league following our win against Norwood Park. Please come along and encourage the best supported team in the county.

We are also looking forward to Sean's away day at Luffenham Heath, he's had great support and he has put together a good format. It should be a great day out.

If you haven't entered a team in the Ryder Cup competition, please do so. Don't worry if you haven't got eight players yet, you can recruit over the next few weeks. The entry sheet is in the spike bar. That's it for now.

News Item

Tonight the scratch team play league leaders Norwood Park. The match is at Newark starting at 4pm. We always have strong support for the matches, but tonight it is vital that we turn out in numbers to support our boys. A win tonight will take us to top spot. Please come along and encourage them, it is top quality golf.

Great win tonight 4½ - ½.  Well done to everyone; Alex,Charlie,Jim, Charlie and Adam. Thanks to all our supporters.

We recently had the England Golf Seniors competition and I spoke to many of the competitors and the organisers. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, both about the course and the catering. Thanks to all concerned, this can only enhance our growing reputation as one of the best courses around.

Saturday was the Dawn Patrol, and just about everyone made it to the tee on time. We started at 6am in foggy conditions, but by 9 it was glorious sunshine. The kitchen laid on a full English, which was demolished quickly and we were on our way home by 11.  Some hardy soles managed another 18 in the Saturday fiddle. The winners were Phil Ball, Mark Franklin, Gary Kirton and James Edwards on count back.

Yesterday was the Mixed Open, and again everything was positive, many thanks to all of the helpers, particularly to the Ladies section for covering reception and the halfway house.

More news soon
