This was played in the afternoon of the 29th of July in excellent conditions, the Fergusons went ahead on the first with a net four, the Woods won the next two but then malcolm’s putter went cold on him, allowing the fergusons to win 4,6,7, with bogies, the excitement came on the 10th when Malcom drove into the pond and the fergusons won the hole with the first par of the round between the pairs, TeamFergusons won 2&1 excellent match Congratulations team Ferguson.
The Barnby Plate Was between Mr Andrew Chamberlain the winner of the Averham trophy and Mr Phil Warriner.
It all started with both players driving into the woods and Phil conceding the first to Andrew, the next two where halved, Andrew won the fourth with a par, 3 more half’s followed, Phil having 3 puts from 15 feet on the 7th inspired Andrew to birdie the 8th although Phil put up a great fight Andrew on form was always comfortable and went on to win 3&2. Congratulations to the champion Andrew Chamberlain well played.
was well supported and we received excellent comments from our visitors for the super quality of the course and the hospitality of a Newark Golf Club, the champions of the open and the Kelwick Bowl Were:
Glyn Martin and Lee Denman from Yorkshire.
Nott’s Boys Match play Knockout championship.
Was played on the 15th and 17th of Aug. at Newark Golf Club with the best of Nottinghamshire young golfing talent on show. Although it had to be played after the greens maintenance there was still good comments about the condition of the course and thanks for the hospitality of Newark Golf Club from the players but also from the President Mr Roger Poole,
I presented the trophy to the Champion Mr Charlie Dryden from Ruddington Grange Golf Club after initially being a reserve.
Second was Oliver Handley from Notts Golf Club.
The final was between Mr Shaun Sutton and the Captain. J. Andrade.
After having to abandon the match with Shaun one up after 7 holes due to heavy rain and waterlogged greens we decided to start afresh a few days later, Shaun continue to dominate and was still one up after 7 and going two up after 9 we continue the back with the captain always trailing behind until Shaun`s lost ball on the sixteen allowed the captain to draw level with the captain a few feet from the hole on the 17th an excellent chip over the left bunker Shaun holed in for a half ,3 more half’s followed, the Captain holing the last put on the 3rd extra hole for victory, thanks Shaun for a great match and the £100 donation after the match for the captains charity in aid of Beaumond House.
KELWICK CUPS final was played on the 1st of October. Between Andrew Sedgewick and Steve Brotherhood, James Todd and Steve Patterson.
with perfect conditions and a fresh sunny morning both teams were ready for battle at 09.00.
Patterson and Todd went one up with a net 3 on the first but Sedgwick with a plan to leave his driver in the bag to play down the middle was a good move to take his team ahead and by half way with the team Patterson and Todd not gelling too well victory looked beyond their reach then Brotherhood took over with a bunch of birdies and an eagle on the back 9 there was no answer from team Paterson and Todd.
A comfortable victory in the end for team Sedgwick. Congratulations to the champions Andrew Sedgwick and Steve Brotherhood.
The Captain`s Charity day on the 9th of October was well supported.
I decided that this Year`s Captain`s Charity day in aid of Beaumond house was to be an open day with a view to maximise revenue for the charity, that proved to be a good decision we had 128 players taking part 43 were visitors netting around an extra £1000 to the total raised many thanks to all the sponsors and players for their generosity and I will announce the total amount raised later.
The winners of the first prize £200 with 45 points were Mr Darren Kirton from College Pines Golf Club and Mr Lee Hessey from Retford Golf Club.
The Hallam Cup
The final match could not take place due to Simon Collingwood injury to his ankle so the match was conceded.
