Captains News March 2015
The season now starts in earnest following my drive in on Sunday, a big thank you to everybody who took part in our traditional Captain versus Vice Captain Team match. It was a very tight affair with Joes team scraping home 15½ to 7½, this is becoming a bit of a concern as Joe also captained the Celts to a win over my Sassenachs at the Burns Night Match in January.
I felt I did myself justice with the 12 drives from the 1st tee, considering the baying mob situated behind the tee and 3 exploding golf balls as well, a few down the middle, a few down the right and a few down the left, consistent if nothing else.
Also a big thank you to the House and Social committee for an excellent evening on the Friday prior to the drive in, the entertainment and food were of the highest order and everybody enjoyed themselves.
Since my last notice our scratch team have collected the trophy at the NUGC annual awards dinner for winning the top league for the first time in our 114 year history, well done to all the players involved last season, let’s retain it this year lads.
Club competitions will be coming thick and fast so be sure to book early, The Winter League is on schedule to be completed before the end of March. Joe and I have just completed the Victory and Kelwick Cup draws and are displayed in the spike bar. My son Ryan and I will be defending our Kelwick Cup win from last year as will Phil Warriner be defending his Victory title.
Good luck to all taking part.
