Senior’s Welcome 2010

I would like to begin by thanking last years Captain David Britton for his contribution and leadership in 2009. I am delighted to Captain the Senior’s in 2010 and I am mindful of the benevolence and warmth which is very evident to all that join us. The Senior’s have one thing in common and that is we are all over 60. As a consequence we have a great deal of knowledge and experience in our ranks which I am sure I will be availing myself of from time to time. At the moment we are 150 of which approx 100 will participate in one or more of our various activities.

 Our calendar is quite varied and is a combination of qualifying competitions and some fun events. We meet on Mondays and Thursdays and play in fourballs which are made up as members arrive on the tee. Here again, this ensures that new members are well received and mix with the ‘old hands’. It also demonstrates that our emphasis is enjoyment and fun.

The Senior’s is very much a team effort and I would like to acknowledge the hard work of a number of people. Our Secretary Peter Adkins, produces a full programme for our enjoyment. The half-way house which is managed by Jeremy Wilcox is a much used and appreciated facility and is the envy of the visiting teams. Refreshments are set out by two volunteer Seniors on a monthly rota. I would urge our Senior’s to continue to ‘volunteer’ for this duty. It is also a tradition that a Senior donates a bottle to the half-way house to celebrate their birthday. I would also like to acknowledge the help and advice from past Captains who have all been there, done it and got the Tee shirt!!

I would urge you to make a note of the following events which I would ask you to support.

• The Senior’s Open 3rd of June.
• The charity Hall of Fame for cancer research 14th of June.
• The Senior’s Charity Day 14th of October.
• The Senior’s Dinner Dance 15th of October.

In conclusion, Howard Lockwood, the Vice Captain and I look forward to guiding you through another busy but enjoyable year. I wish you all happy and healthy golfing 2010.
