Pike in the Pond

In recent days two large Pike have been removed from the pond in front of the 4th tee.  The second one was caught by one of our members Steve Brotherhood and the Course Manager Graeme Macdonald and was a whopping 17lbs.  It was a 40 minute battle to get it out and it has been safely transported to another home. How do they get there?  Well its thought they come in to the pond down the drainage grips as very young fish, become trapped in the pond and live quite happily devouring everything in site.   I was surprised to read that the Pike is the perfect predator and has no need for evolutionary change; fossils have provided clear evidence of the Pike remaining in its present form for over 60 million years. The national record is 46lb 13oz and the average about 12lbs....so ours was a good one !
