August Saturday Medal

Despite the poor weather during the August Saturday Medal, the number of scores returned for the event were more than two thirds of the field. As such the rules published in the Club Diary state the competition should stand and the results have been posted.

Our apologies for any confusion caused on the day or subsequently. Those players who believed the competition to have been abandoned and so did not complete their round have received a refund of the entry fee onto their cards.

Fraser Macintyre.

Club Captain.

Oldham Cup retained by Newark

The Oldham Cup was presented by John Oldham in 1931.  John was a member of both Newark and Seacroft and the inaugral match took place on Sunday 1st June 1931; it ended in a win for Seacroft by 6½ to 3½.  The annual fixture has continued down the years interrupted only by the Second World War.

The teams are made up of The Captain, Vice Captain, Gentlemen from the Board of Directors, Secretary and Professional; selected members from Committees or Members who have given good service to the Club make up the required eight pairs.  It is an annual match played over 36 holes with the venue alternating.

In 2008 Newark regained the trophy with an excellent win at Seacroft; in 2009 Newark retained the trophy at home and this year completed an exceptionally rare hatrick of wins.  The score on this occasion was Seacroft 7½ Newark 8½,  levelling the overall score at 36/36.  Well done everyone.

Andy's Appeal

This email has been received from Andy Hall

"Hello David
I am a relatively new member at Newark, having joined just over a year ago.
This weekend I am running in the Plymouth Half Marathon in an effort to help my terminally ill cousin to raise over £1 million towards Motor Neurone Disease research.
Would it be at all possible for you to publicise this for me on the website? I am determined to help raise as much as I can and would be grateful for any help you might be able to give.
The easiest way to see what I am trying to achieve would be to click the following link www.justgiving.com/AndyHallGolden100
Thank for your time
Regards
Andy"
