Andy's Trek

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Newark Golf Club members for there kind donations/sponsorship for the Beaumond House trek of the Sahara Desert.
I'm proud to say that with your support I was able to be one of a group of record breaking trekkers that walked 100k in the desert.
We as a group of 46 are the biggest party of people to go overseas to raise money for a hospice and fingers crossed we will have raised the most amount of money for a single event for a hospice.
Myself and Beaumond House cannot thank you enough.

Website Maintenance

Just to let everyone know, in case we have one or two insomniacs, the website will not be available between 10pm and 6am on Sunday 19th February.  This is planned maintenance due to the migration of the server to a new datacentre suite.  I hope it doesn't cause any inconvenience.

We have the weather data from Waddington weather centre for this area starting in 1947  and recorded monthly.  It indicates the conditions that  our course manager has had to contend with recently. This data can be accessed from the course report page or go directly from  :-http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/stationdata/waddingtondata.txt

I hope you will find it of interest, notice the consistently low rainfall in March and April.

Daily Mail Foursomes

Richard Sills and Richard Borrill have now played  their fifth round DailyMail Foursomes match at Newark on Saturday 9th July.

They played against a pairing from Serlby Park Golf Club (Doncaster) who were off a 5 & 8 Handicap.
They were 2 down after 2 holes, which was how it remained to the 9th, but after the 12th they were 4 down.  They managed to rally back to 1 down after 16th and it was looking good on 17th but Serlby Park holed a 15' put to halve the hole.
The match result was 1 down as they halved the last.

Well done to both Richards' for getting as far as they did.

Oldham Cup retained by Newark

The Oldham Cup was presented by John Oldham in 1931.  John was a member of both Newark and Seacroft and the inaugral match took place on Sunday 1st June 1931; it ended in a win for Seacroft by 6½ to 3½.  The annual fixture has continued down the years interrupted only by the Second World War.

The teams are made up of The Captain, Vice Captain, Gentlemen from the Board of Directors, Secretary and Professional; selected members from Committees or Members who have given good service to the Club make up the required eight pairs.  It is an annual match played over 36 holes with the venue alternating.

In 2008 Newark regained the trophy with an excellent win at Seacroft; in 2009 Newark retained the trophy at home and in 2010 completed an exceptionally rare hatrick of wins.  The score on that occasion was Seacroft 7½ Newark 8½,  levelling the overall score at 36/36.  This year Newark have continued their successful run with a fine 12 - 4 win in exceptionally hot conditions moving the overall score on to 37/36.  Well done everyone.

Website usage hit all time high in 2010

I am sure members will be interested to know that over the past four years  the usage of our website has steadily increased every year since 2007 when we started the website.

              Unique computers /month                    total hits/annum

2007                   1100                                                 30000

2008                   2100                                                 61000

2009                   2700                                                77000

2010                  3500                                                 99000

This success is down to a number of factors:

1   A well designed site which is easy to access. http://www.uxello.com/

2  The constant updating, our site prides itself in being up to date giving the very latest information available

3   We must congratulate everyone at the club who use the website and all those people who are responsible for keeping their pages current. Our site is truly a members site that gives members the everyday  information they need.but it also serves the needs of a large number of non members.

4  Our club manager is responsible for much of the diary information but the rest of the pages are being continually  updated by the members from the various sections and they are essential to our excellent achievement.

5  The most popular  pages  are of course the diary followed by our two webcams but the other pages are close behind

If you have any ideas how we might improve the website further please let me know.
