15-Jul-2010 : Club Report 7
Gentlemen: Notts Inter-Club Scratch League: Division One. Newark v Worksop.
Newark was unable to convert the home fixture into points in a tight match against a strong Worksop side. The team of Jim Hallam; John Cooke jnr [Capt]; Tim Cooke; Dave Britten and Alex Clarricoates suffered a 3-2 loss. Tim Cooke [caddied by Paul Bullard] had a fine 4 and 2 win against the Nottinghamshire Amateur Strokeplay Champion of 2010. Four up after twelve, Cooke ran out as a comfortable winner. Alex Clarricoates, [see picture below] following a level par performance in the Rayner Trophy took his good form into his third scratch team match and notched up his first win. All square at nine he went to two up at twelve and ran out a 3 and 2 winner. This was against a strong opponent who had passed through the regional qualifiers [Carlton in Lindrick GC] for The Open. John Cooke [caddied by Kevin Ward] went to the final green and despite a birdie chip that rolled off the lip of the hole, finished at one down. Jim Hallam [caddied by Jim Inger] turned at level. Eleven was halved in birdie following a Hallam sandsave. Twelve was also halved in birdie. Seventeen saw the Worksop man chip from off the green and rattle the flagstick for a gimmie par while Hallams’ birdie putt did not find the cup. All level [in game and match] off the tee at eighteen. The Worksop man birdied from twelve feet and the Hallam putt took the lip but not the bottom of the cup. The next match is away to bottom team Chilwell Manor GC [they have played one home fixture to date v Notts’ and won 3-2] upon Friday 16th July.
