Gentlemen: Interclub League v Nottingham City.
Latest fixture for Newark GC in the Notts InterClub Scratch League was the visit of Nottingham City GC. The team of Jim Hallam, Ian Dellar, Pete Gresswell, Tim Cooke and John E Cooke jnr recorded a healthy 3.5 / 1.5 win. This win did not come easy, as City offered a strong challenge, threatening at one point to snatch the points. The experienced Newark team rebuffed the challenge with the turning point being the contribution of debutant Peter Gresswell. At 3 down after 14 holes, Gresswell had it all to do. In a tenacious display of battling golf, Gresswell birdied the last hole to take a half point out of the game and turn the tide to the favour of Newark
Gentlemen: Interclub Foursomes v Stanton on the Wolds.
After beating Rushcliffe GC 3 up, in a tough away fixture, Newark GC was drawn to play a home fixture against Stanton on the Wolds GC. The foursome pairings for Newark were; Joe Marum/Jim Hallam winning game 1 at 7 up; and John E Cooke jnr/Tim Cooke halving game 2. The Newark team scored a convincing 7 up victory, to progress to the last 8 of the competition. Subsequently, Newark has been drawn to play Notts GC, at Hollinwell, on Monday July 7th.
Gentlemen: Notts PGA Strokeplay.
Following John E Cooke jnr setting the record for an amateur over the new course, a record professional score of 66 was set by Paul Bagshaw in the Notts PGA Strokeplay. Bagshaw carded 3 bogies, 8 pars, 7 birdies and an eagle at the 6th hole.
Gentlemen: Centenary Trophy.
Presented in 2001, this is a significant trophy at Newark GC. It commemorates the first 100 years of the clubs history. Twinned with the trophy, a book was published, identifying the people and chronicling the events that built the club into its present stature. Thirdly, in an innovative initiative, the biannual fixture with Moundbuilders' GC of Newark, Ohio, USA, was established.
Winner of the trophy was early starter Keith Marsden, carding a nett 63, he threw out a challenge to the field of 108. Nobody could respond. Other places were decided by countback. Ryan Maclacla, took second spot carding a nett 67. While John Marshall [nett 67] and John Hunt [nett 67] came third and fourth respectively. Jim Hallam recorded the lowest gross of 70 ahead of Tim Cooke upon countback.
Ladies: Exchange Day.
Ladies from Newark GC exchanged venues with Ashby Decoy GC at Scunthorpe. The results of the stableford competition were: 1 - Sue Burns [34 pts]; 2 - Josie Pepper [29 pts]; 3 - Pat Wilson [28 pts]. Best front nine - Hilda Price [17 pts]. Best back nine - Kath Sharman [17 pts].
Juniors: League v Bulwell Forest.
Newark GC Juniors travelled to Bulwell Forest in the Notts Junior Inter-club League. The team of Matt Keracher, Sash Mirshadi, Harry Hickmore, Adam Woolley, Ben Sheard, Tom Chrysanthou plus youngster debutants Charlotte Day and Louiza Chrysanthou earned a valuable point in a drawn match against the league leaders.
