John Jalland and Kayh Sharman
John Jalland and Kath Sharman
Mixed: Spring Mixed Greensomes.

This stableford competition was won by the pairing of John Jalland and 2010 Ladies Vice-Captain, Kath Sharman with thirty eight points. There was little to excite the imagination of an impending win as an unimpressive start accrued three points from the first two holes. A steady effort followed culminating in an eight foot putt from Jalland to find the bottom of the cup and double the total upon the third hole. This was a portent of the modus operandi that characterised the round from then onwards.Three more points were added at the fifth hole following a perfect drive from Jalland that found the centre of the green.Jallands perfection with the longer shafted clubs disappeared at that point and the pairing had to select the Sharman drive upon the sixth hole. This was in the copse upon the right hand side of the fairway beyond the bunker and the large oak tree. Jalland threaded a ball through the trees for Sharman to place a 5 iron to six feet of the hole. Jalland, with a hot putter, promptly converted the opportunity, rattling the ball into the cup, for a very welcome, gross birdie. This was the end of the high scoring as the pairing fell away to arrive at half way with a respectable and still competitive, twenty points. Although Sharman was driving well and Jalland was competent with the putter the back nine descended into a struggle to garner points. Only fourteen and eighteen were bountiful, as the pairing steadily accumulated an unspectacular, eighteen points. Jalland commented.”We were surprised to win with 38 points, but on the day it was the best score within the competition.” Second place upon count-back went to Reg Dove and Josie Wake with 37 points. In third place were Club Captain, Fraser Macintyre and Eva Glasby.
