Gentlemen: Walter Hughes Medal Finals.
The culmination of the 2008 season was the Walter Hughes Medal Finals Trophy which had been postponed from the previous weekend. This is a medal competition open to qualifying players from the monthly medals. The trophy was presented to first placed Kevin Ward [nett 68] who finished ahead of second placed, Malcolm Wood [nett 68] on a countback. Scratch team representative David Britten, produced the best gross score for the competition of 73.
Ben Hazzledine [nett 69] was first in Division 1 [handicap 0-9], ahead of John Marshall [nett 69] upon countback.
Division 2 [handicap 10-18] had a clear winner in James Britten [nett 69]. Places two, three and four were closely contested as countback ordered junior member Daniel Yates, Terry Crich and Frank Duffy into their respective positions, each finishing upon nett 70.
In Division 3 [handicap 19-28], the prizes went to two junior members. Ryan Maclachlan [nett 70] came first, ahead of second placed Tom Chrysanthou [nett 71].
Gentlemen: Captains' Charity Competition.
In aid of the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance Service.
A three member, mixed, team competition with one score to count upon the first six holes, two scores to count from holes 7 to 12 and all three scores to count from the final six holes
1 - Tom Ablewhite; Paul Ablewhite; Tom Chrysanthou. [80 pts].
2 - Kevin Robinson; Keith Bennett; David Ginnelly. [78 pts].
3 - Howard Roberts; Charles Pale y; David Legge. [77 pts-countback].
4 - Phil Sansom; Vincent Johnson-Cooper; Mike Elias.[ 77 pts-countback].
5 - Caroll Mclachlan; Jill Pearce; Simon Pearce. [76 pts].
6 - John K Blagg; John B Blagg; John B Blagg jnr. [75 pts].
7 - Sean Maclachlan; Ryan Maclachlan; Ivor Samways. [74 pts].
The only team to put three balls onto the 17th green were John A Cooke, Jean Cooke and Mitchel Britten, while nearest the line upon the 7th fairway was Alan Maidlow.
Nearest the pins: 2nd - Charles Paley; 5th - Marcus Coulby; 15th - Maurice Mayfield; 17th - Colin Hudson.
Ladies: Captain v Vice Captain.
The Captain v Vice Captain end of season match resulted in a 7 ½ - 7 ½ draw. After the subsequent prize presentation, Lady Captain, Jill Pearce, was delighted to offer a donation of £2,290 to this years charity, the Army Benevolent Fund, which was accepted by Col Roger Merryweather. The Ladies Charity Day raised over £1100 with the rest of the donation being accumulated at other events throughout the year. Lady Captain, Jill Pearce, was exceptionally grateful to all those donators who had contributed with such an immense and wonderful effort, displaying an exemplary attitude in support of the charity.
Ladies: Jubilee Cup.
The postponed Jubilee Cup, was won by Caroll Maclachlan [nett 71] from Margaret Lewis [nett 73], followed by Linda Castledine [nett 74] and Eva Glasby [nett 75]. Jane Tucker had the lowest gross score of 84.
Ladies: Eclectic Cup.
Margaret Lewis won the Eclectic Cup, which was presented in 1950. This was the second success for Lewis this year after winning the Spring Mixed Greensomes with Alwyn Lyon.
Seniors: Medal Finals.
First in the Seniors Medal Final was Philip Hayes [nett 69] with the lowest gross score of 80. Roy Williams [nett 73] was second ahead of David Daniels [nett 73] upon countback. John Hallam [nett 74] was fourth.
Seniors: Charity Day.
Winner of the Seniors' Charity Day Competition was Peter Smith who accrued 42 stableford points. Second was John Rimmer with 40 points with third place to Mike Elias with 38 points. John Huson and Colin Appleby scored 37 points and were ordered by count-back into fourth and fifth places respectively. Selected charity was Beaumond House Hospice.
