Gentlemen: Notts Interclub Scratch League v College Pines.
Newark GC had an important away win at College Pines GC to maintain the impetus of this seasons' promotion drive. The 4-1 win has maintained Newark's position at the top of the table and improved the score-line to a healthy situation of 24 games won and 11 games lost. The team of: Jim Hallam; Tim Cooke; Joe Marum; Dave Britten; and John Cooke jnr; produced an all-round display of good quality golf, which overpowered the opposition. Newark has a bye in the next round of the competition before travelling to a showdown match with title and promotion rivals Mapperley GC in the final series of the season.
Gentlemen: Vice Captains Competition.
Newark GC's Vice Captain, Barre Ramsbottom, selected Greetham Valley GC as the venue for the annual VC's Competition Day. The team competition, played over nine holes, upon the Lakes Course, was won with a total of 41 points by: Keith Goodwin; Alwyn Lyon and Bob Burns.
The individual stableford over 18 holes upon the Valley Course, was won by Brian Rollitt with 39 points from; 2 - John Gelsthorpe [37 pts countback]; 3 - Pat Burke [37 pts]. Dave Hood had the best front nine with 20 points, while John Cooke snr took the best back nine. Keith Bennett won the newly introduced, lowest gross score category. Nearest the pin was Geoff Walker and the longest drive, was hit by Clyde Scothern.
