18-Mar-2009 : Club Report 1
Gents: Captain v Vice Captain.
Club Captain, Barre Ramsbottom drove 12 balls down the first fairway to set the 2009 season in motion. The motion did not last for too long
upon this day, as the competition was swiftly terminated by strong, blustering winds and heavy rainfall which rendered the greens unplayable.

The wrecking weather did not affect the Captains Drive-In, but arrived in gathering force, as the competitors made their way to the various tees for the shotgun start. Most games managed four or five holes before the siren sounded the recall to the clubhouse. The team selection of Vice Captain, Fraser Macintyre, was very well placed at this time of the match. Both sides were reluctant to walk off the course, but were unable to defy the assault of the weather of March. Despite the best intentions a void, null result was the outcome of the day.
Mixed: Texas Scramble.
The Texas Scramble Competition saw 38 mixed teams of 4, compete in a medal stroke play. This popular competition was oversubscribed so additional tee times were created to fulfil the demand for entry. The competition was played over a par 70 course as the 10th hole, normally a par four, was reduced to a par three. This was due to reconstruction work upon the hole as part of the course improvement program. The winners were an early starting team [fourth start of the day at 7.51 am] composed of: John E Cooke snr; Jim Hallam; David Britten; and Duncan Martin, finishing upon net 56.6 shots. ![2009 Vice Captain, Fraser Macintyre [left] and Club Captain Barre Ramsbottom [right]](/assets/images/Press Release/2 150 164.jpg)
